THE BRIEF

Real mountain.
Short walk in.

Most people picture Portugal as beaches and cities. The north and the interior are its high ground: the green Minho, Peneda-Gerês, the country's only national park, the plateaus of Trás-os-Montes and Serra da Estrela, the highest range on the mainland.

This spring a production company brought us a brief from an outdoor clothing brand. They needed real mountain terrain, close to the road, for a crew of about twelve and ten models. This is how we found it and ran it.

Rock, not snow.
Rugged mountain ground with little or no snow underfoot, and snowy peaks in the background where possible.

Room to move.
Rock suited to scrambling
and climbing-style movement, so the clothing layers could be shown
in real use.

No long hikes.
Easy access for crew, kit
and talent. Time spent walking in is time lost on
the light.

Behind the scenes

THE CREW IN ACTION

Twelve crew and ten models on the granite of Serra da Estrela, the highest range in mainland Portugal. Four days of scouting came first, so on shoot days
the crew went straight to the light.

  • Four zones, scouted in advance: resorts and hotels supporting summit trail, steep rock faces, mid-mountain trail and mid-mountain rock.

  • Looked after on the mountain: winterized vehicles, meals planned around dietary needs, protein-packed snack boxes, warm layers and hot drinks between set-ups.

  • On screen in September 2026: the footage became the brand's new-season campaign.
